Braga was most likely founded in 296 BCE by Carthaginians and was called Bracara Augusta by the Romans that had inhabited the area. It was the capital of the Callaici Bracarii, a Celtic tribe, and was a meeting point for five strategic military roads. The city was taken successively by the Suebi in the 5th century and by the Visigoths in 585.Braga is famous for its historical buildings, gardens, monuments and fountains.
