History of Coolangatta

There were Europeans in Coolangatta as early as 1828, as it was then known for being a convict station. By 1882 it had become a township and its success was sealed in 1902 due to the extension of the railway line. From then on it would be a resort that could be easily reached. As part of the Centenary celebrations a stone from the Coolangatta Estate was placed on a pillar of Aberdeen granite as this was the birthplace of Alexander Berry one of the first settlers.
