Kansai Airport which serves the city of Osaka in southern Japan is one of the most remarkable airports in the world. It has been built on an artificial island in the bay of Osaka around 2 miles offshore, and approximately 20 miles southwest of the city. The airport was constructed over a period of around 10 years from the mid 1980s. The airport has won a number of awards since opening including being named as the 4th best airport in the world, and numerous honours for its innovative architecture.

All of the car hire desks at Kansai Airport are located on the first floor of the Terminal building in the Aeroplaza, which is accessed just off the arrivals hall. Once you pass through passport control, turn right into the hall, and the desks are along the back wall. There is a choice of car hire companies based at the airport that include Internationaland local firms. Nippon, Nissan, Orix, Mazda, Japaren and Toyota Rentacar are all based at the airport and can be booked in advance.
From Osaka, head south along the coast road as far as Izumisano. The airport bridge is visible from some distance away. Turn right onto the Kansai Kuku Expressway which is the direct road to the airport and terminates at the Terminal building car park.
