The city of Ketchikan began in 1883 when a salmon saltery was established by a man called Snow. After two years, businessmen for Oregon Hired a man named Mike Martin to investigate the possibilities to erect a salmon cannery on what is currently known as Ketchikan Creek. Ketchikan is best known for its feisty salmon, idyllic scenery and an incredibly rich Alaska native culture.
