The Guianas people, live on the “now Paraty”. In the Tupi language, "Paraty means "river of fish." Paraty had significant economic importance due to its sugar cane mills. Paraty is a known tourist destination, famous for its historic town center, the coast and the mountains in the region. The city's historic center and the four areas of the Atlantic Forest were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2019.
