The Windy City is home to 2.7 million residents, which makes it the third most populated city in the USA. As the capital of Illinois, Chicago is one of the most popular cities in terms of tourism. In fact, Chicago O’Hare International airport is the second busiest airport in the world. An amazing 45 million people visited Chicago in 2010, which is 123,000 people every day.

Due to these rather amazing figures, Chicago has one of the top ten financial centres in the world and is in the top 10 for international relations, which means that it is a city that is well known internationally as well as domestically.

Chicago has a world famous musical and theatre background. Classical music in the area is popular as Chicago’s very own Symphony Orchestra, who performs at the Symphony Center are widely considered to be one of the best orchestras in the world.  In the modern era, Chicago has had close links to House and Rap music since the birth of both.  In fact, many people consider Detroit, Chicago to be where the house genre was born.

Chicago entertains over 1.3 million international visitors every single year, which actually makes it one of the highest US cities for foreign tourists. This means that car hire in Chicago is common. Furthermore, as there are lots of things to see and do in and around the city, using a car is the most convenient way to get around.

Popular tourist sites include the Magnificent Mile, which is one street lined with top of the range stores and restaurants. On the other hand, there are several world-class museums dotted all around the city centre that draw in millions of visitors every year. Furthermore, while in the area, make sure you try out the famous Chicago pizza, which is a pizza that is said to have been introduced in the city.

Chicago continues to be names the best city in the United States for sports, most recently winning the award in 2010 and 2006. This is in no small part down to several world-famous teams, including; Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bears and Chicago Bulls.

Due to its size, there are an array of ‘famous’ people that hail from the region. In fact, probably the most well-known person in the world Barack Obama was born in the centre of Chicago, Illinois. Furthermore, Hugh Hefner, John Malkovich, Vince Vaughn and even Mr. T were all born here.
