Brussels is a major city when it comes to reaching Europe as it has both a large airport and a station for Eurostar. When arriving at the airport many will want to hire a car as the airport is 8 miles northeast of Brussels and driving into the city will not be difficult. Once on the Brussels ring road the centre will be clearly signposted and as expected at peak times there may be delays so allow plenty of time for the journey.
It is easy to get to the airport by train, or bus. The Airport City Express will take you there and also there are trains from all over Belgium. There are express buses (MIVB and STIB) that go directly from the airport to the city centre and government departments while coaches can be caught to Antwerp and Eindhoven. The information desk is open Monday to Sunday, from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and staff can also provide information regarding the city. To contact them in advance the number is (0)2 528 7753.
If you are looking to hire a car at the airport then Hertz and Sixt are based there but it will be just as convenient to check out www.tripindicator.com and sort this out before you leave home.
When waiting for a flight it is important that there is somewhere to eat and drink and Brussels International Airport provides a range of restaurants, cafes and bars including the Black Pearl, Belgian Beer Caf?, Sports Bar and Quick. There is a wide range of duty free shops including Hermes, The Chocolate Company and many stores selling jewellery and gifts for a last minute present. Money can be exchanged and cash machines are available for fresh withdrawals.
There is also a post office so there is no need to look round for one once in Brussels and if you need to leave luggage while you are there, lockers are available. It is also possible to work from the airport due to the wireless connection. There are good facilities catering for disabled fliers while there are porters able to help with excess luggage or giving directions. Cars can be left for the duration of the flight and there are nearby pick up and drop off points.
