Canarian cuisines are the distinctive ingredients and dishes of the Canary Islands includung mojos (like mojo picon), papas arrugadas and wines from malvasia grapes. Mojo (pronouncing mO-ho) is like a sauce that might be red, green or orange depending on components. It is quite heavy with garlic, fairly spicy. Papas arrugadas, meaning crumpled potato, contain small potatoes boiled with salt water, generally served with cooked chicken with mojo toppings. Another typical Canarian food is gofio, a kind of locally made flour produced by roasted and grinded sweet corn, eaten there as substitute of bread with many dishes. Ropa vieja is a dish prepared with beef and chicken with mixture of garbanzo beans and potatoes. They quite often make foods yellow, by either local azafran (that is saffron) or by food colourings.
Also included in the Canarian cuisine are Spanish peninsula, Paella and Spanish tortilla. Canary cooking also contains so many dishes made by fishes caught near the island coast. Among them are very delicious sancocho canario, prepared with mojo and salted fish, rabbit with salmorejo, a sauce containing olive oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, water etc. Tomato and banana, two of the major sources of the island's wealth, also play important role to make the Canary cuisine mouth watering as do the papaya fruit and avocado pear. Local drinks include special malmsey wines, rum, rum-cum-honey and the red portions of Tacoronte.

Especially the Tenerife Island, with two renowned tourist spots: one to the luxuriant north, another in the sunlit south has added spices to the city's scenic treasure. Seven beautiful volcanic origin islands in Atlantic Ocean, of north western African coast (Western Sahara and Morocco) form the Canary Islands. They are an autonomous society of Spain. Morocco recently claimed these islands along with Melilla and Ceuta. The name, the Canary Islands, comes from Latin Insularia Canaria which means the Island of Dogs. Along with the wonderful natural sights and delicious Canarian cuisines, the Canarian night life also provides time worth enjoying to the travellers visiting the Canary Islands. Santa Cruz, well known for the night-life consists of pubs and discotheques. It is in Marina park, which is named after Csar Manrique. Also there are Avenida 3 de mayo and Residencial Anaga, La Noria street pubs, the nearby La Laguna. The city, Tenerife is also popular for the enormous, renowned and rather sophisticated carnival, among the largest in the whole World declared by InternationalTourist Interest after the death of General Franco. This colourful and gorgeous carnival hits this Canary Island city like a storm in the month of February, or March of every year. Thus it can be concluded that night-life in these islands is perhaps not the best that one can possibly get, but a visit to the islands would surely be worthwhile for its serene natural beauty. Furthermore, a visit there during the carnival can totally light up one's life!
The Islands can be a shopping delight as no customs barrier comes on the way. Tenerife and the rest of the islands are to a certain extent tax free areas. Even tax-free shops in airports can not compete with costs within the Canaries. From tobaccos, Liqueurs to cameras, films of cameras, transistor radios, watches, tape recorders, perfumes everything is quite economical than in the product's country of origin. Rarest stuffs like Chinese silks, Nigerian crocodile skins can be purchased here. The perfumes, though, would be wise to buy from the airport tax free shops as one can doubt the origins of those found within the islands. The local crafts are mainly found in the form of embroidery and openwork done by the Canary women of sophisticated taste and great expertise. Pottery as well has years of tradition, one of the greatest interests of island population, as in manufacturing baskets with cane, palm leaves and reed. Delicate items are also created there by carving woods. Varieties of cheap electronic goods like cameras, car stereos, watches, CD players are worth buying, though the brand qualities are not ensured. Finnish made Nokia Mobile phones can be surprisingly inexpensive. Shopping, therefore, in the Canary Islands can be a great pleasure for tourists of all tastes.
