The island of Corsica in the Mediterranean Sea is located west of Italy, southeast of France and north of the Island of Sardinia. There are two main Airports on the island: Ajaccio Airport, officially known as A?roport de Ajaccio Campo Dell'Oro (AJA), and Poretta Airport in Bastia. Two smaller airports are Calvi and Figari. AJA is the largest of the four airports and is just 5 km or a 15 minutes drive from the centre of Ajaccio city along Route N193. Air France is the biggest carrier operating out of AJA, with connections to the major cities in Europe. Ajaccio is on Corsica?s west cost about 390 km southeast of Marseille. Bastia Airport, officially A?roport de Bastia-Poretta (BIA) is the second biggest and lies some 20 km or 12 miles from Bastia. Travel to the island is basically by air or ferry, and being a small island travel between any two points takes only a short time.
Transport facilities at the airport in Ajaccio are quite naturally scaled down. The airport has only 400 odd parking slots. Only 10 to 15 taxis are permanently stationed at the airport and every 50 minutes or so a shuttle bus leaves the airport for the center of the city. A few Internationalcar hire companies have depots at the airport, including Budget , Europcar and Hertz. Bastia Airport doesn?t fare any better, but it has 450 parking slots and the shuttle bus (4.5 Euros one-way) takes some 30 minutes to get to the city centre.
