Things to be Consider Hiring a Car at Palma De Mallorca Airport?

You should always thoroughly inspect your car for any extant damage or defects as soon as you get to it. Report any you find to the provider and make sure they have noted it; this will avoid the problem of later being charged for it. Also, always return the car with the same fuel level as when you picked it up. Again, this will defuse the risk of being billed for it after you get home, usually at an inflated rate of what it would cost to fill the car up. .

Always make sure you understand the road laws of your destination and obey them. Even though you’re on holiday, you should always be a responsible driver just as you would at home. That means no drinking and driving, no texting behind the wheel, and taking regular rest breaks.

There are four car hire companies with premises at Palma de Mallorca Airport. While you can, of course, book a car straight after stepping off your flight, a large amount of money and time can be saved by booking in advance online.

Before You Go

You’ll need to satisfy a few conditions and produce certain documents to hire a car in Spain. The usual required age for drivers is 22, but this can be up to 25 for some models. An upper age limit is in effect with many companies, usually 65. Often, a valid driver’s licence from your home country is sufficient, but if you’re from outwith the EU, you’ll also need an International Driving Permit (IDP). The hire agreement must have all the drivers’ names.

How to Buy Car Insurance

When you hire a car in Spain, there is usually some basic cover available, such as a Collision Damage Waiver or Theft Cover. This is often an extra on top of the basic price, and furthermore, it would not offer complete protection in the event of an accident as you would still need to pay a large excess. To get around this, you could buy excess insurance from your car hire provider, but it works out cheaper to get this from a dedicated specialist such as insurance4carhire.com. Your car hire also might have other extra costs, such as airport tax, roof rack, and air conditioning.

General Information & Tips on Car Hire

Palma de Mallorca Airport, popularly known as Son Sant Joan Airport, is Spain’s third busiest airport and handles a large amount of tourist traffic. It has the capacity to deal with 25 million passengers per year. It lies 8 km (5 miles) east of Palma, next to the village of Can Pastilla. It makes a great base to hire a car to explore the city or the beautiful scenery of the island. The airport has two terminals, divided into four modules (A, B, C and D). The site has its origins in the 1920s, when seaplanes delivered post to the other Balearic islands. The following decade, flights to other parts of Spain started, and in 1938 the airport passed into military use. Following the war, great expansion was seen, with the extension of the runway in 1954 and a new terminal in 1960. Other terminals followed in 1965, 1972, and the largest yet in 1997. The terminals, or modules, have a host of facilities including restaurants, a pharmacy, a gifts and crafts shop, a recycled jewellery shop, as well as wi-fi, ATMs, and bureaux de change.
