Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria is the second most populated island of the seven Canary Islands, it is an African archipelago but part of Spain. Gran Canaria has a population of 847,830 based on 2015 data. Pico de las Nieves is the highest point with an altitude of 6,417 ft (1,956 m) and an area of 602 sq. mi (1,560 km2) so therefore it is the third largest of all the islands with both altitude and area. Gran Canaria has an amazing weather, it even snows on this island but not as often as you might be thinking. This snow only falls at the highest point of the island and not the lowest points, it is hardly noticeable on the beaches because the sun shines all through a whole year in the Gran Canaria resorts; with well over 3000 hours of sunshine per annum. The southern part of the island is known for its calm conditions during winter and is regarded as the best place to be in Europe.

The Gran Canarian capital 'Las Palmas' has the most pleasant weather world over. According to research carried out by the Syracuse University, its finding states that the combination of all-year-round sun and warm temperatures make Gran Canaria's weather a world-beater. Canarians generally like to experience bad weather hence their holiday goal which is to get big coats, fly up north to see the frost, snow and play in puddles, then come back to the beach to feel the warmth. Gran Canaria has sea level temperatures that vary between day and night, from 140C in the night to over 400C during summer when the days are hottest. The Gran Canaria island is regarded as a small continent, due to its different climates and landscapes including long beaches, and white sands. It possesses some great number of Natural Protected Spaces which are very good tourist destinations such as the Doramas Jungle, Tamadaba, Rural Park of Nublo, Azuaje Ravine and Pino Santo just to name a few. There are a lot of resorts in the southern part such as Playa del Ingles ("The Englishman's Beach"), Meloneras, and San Agustín. All these amazing places and its different weather conditions make it one of the perfect places to be on earth for tourists.
