Heathrow is the second busiest airport in the world by International passenger traffic, as well as the busiest airport in Europe by passenger traffic, and the seventh busiest airport in the world by total passenger traffic. It handled a record 80.1 million passengers, a 2.7% increase from 2017 as well as 480,339 aircraft movement, a 4,715 increase from 2017.

TERMINALS

Heathrow Airport has four current Terminals: Queen’s Terminal, Terminal 3, Terminal 4 and Terminal 5

TERMINAL 2 (QUEEN’S TERMINAL):

It is the newest terminal officially known as Queen’s Terminal and was opened on 4 June 2014. It previously served the Virgin Atlantic and now accomodate the Star Alliance members along with Eurowings, The new flybe, Air lingus and Icelandair.

TERMINAL 3 (OCEANIC TERMINAL):

It is opened on 13 November 1961as the oceanic terminal to handle flight departures for long-journey routes for foreign travelling to the United States, Asia and other Far Eastern destinations.

TERMINAL 4

It was opened in 1986 situated to the south of the southern runway next to the Cargo Terminal and is connected to Terminals 2 and 3 by the Heathrow Cargo Tunnel. It accommodates the Sky Team Alliance with the deviation of Middle East Airlines along with Delta Airlines which uses Terminal 3

TERMINAL 5

It lies between the Northern and Southern runways at the Western end of the Heathrow site and was opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 14, March 2008.

AIRPORT TO CITY

Heathrow airport to the city center is not that far but it takes approximately 30 minutes by taxi ride with a total cost of 57 Euros. The fastest route to the city is by train which costs 25 Euros and it takes around 15 minutes to reach Central London. A cheaper alternative is the Metro.
